       Merlion Park is one of very famous and popular places in Singapore because in that place there is a Merlion Statue.

       Merlion statue or commonly called the lion head statue is a tourist icon of Singapore and even some say the mascot of Singapore.        It’s called the Statue of Merlion (Mermaid and Lion) because of its body in the form of a fish, while its head is a lion. Perpaudan symbolizes the following:

       The Merlion’s body symbolises Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, which comes from the same root as the word tasek (“lake” in Malay).

        Whereas, its head represents Singapore’s original name, Singapore, or “lion city” in Malay.

       It was designed as a symbol of Singapore in 1964. The Merlion statue has the shape of a lion’s head with a fish body on the crest of a wave. The icon of Singapore which is famous throughout the world, was designed by Mr. Fraser Brunner, member of the souvenir committee and curator at the Van Kleef Aquarium.
