       Merlion Park is one of very famous and popular places in Singapore because in that place there is a Merlion Statue.

       Merlion statue or commonly called the lion head statue is a tourist icon of Singapore and even some say the mascot of Singapore.        It’s called the Statue of Merlion (Mermaid and Lion) because of its body in the form of a fish, while its head is a lion. Perpaudan symbolizes the following:

       The Merlion’s body symbolises Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, which comes from the same root as the word tasek (“lake” in Malay).

        Whereas, its head represents Singapore’s original name, Singapore, or “lion city” in Malay.

       It was designed as a symbol of Singapore in 1964. The Merlion statue has the shape of a lion’s head with a fish body on the crest of a wave. The icon of Singapore which is famous throughout the world, was designed by Mr. Fraser Brunner, member of the souvenir committee and curator at the Van Kleef Aquarium. The Origin of the Singapore Name

       The name of Singapore certainly has a meaning and origin that you need to know. In Sanskrit “Simha” means lion and “Pura” means city. Why it uses Sanskrit? At the beginning of the 14th century Prince Sriwijaya named Sang Nila Utama stopped at an island that he did not know about. The island was considered strategic enough to be made a shipping and trade center because it was located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula. At that time the prince was stopping to rest on the island. When hunting, the prince saw an animal running fast in front of him. However, he never knew what animal it was. However, the prince considered that the animal was a type of lion. Due to often seeing these animals while hunting or continuing their journey, the prince gave the island’s name as Singapore.        Long time ago, there was a king named Nila Utama. The king’s hobby was hunting and He was a great hunter of animals. He also really liked the area with beautiful natural scenery. (Also read : Hawk and Foolish Crow)

       One day, the king Nila Utama heard news about a deer. The deer was very difficult to hunt. The deer was in the forest located on Tanjung Bentam Island.

       The following day the king decided to go to the forest oh Tanjung Bentam Island. He wanted to catch the deer there. Arriving on the island, the king and his entourage immediately hunted.
