Seven Girls and a Witch

        Once upon a time there were seven girls who were being good friends in Serawak. They used to go everywhere together. One of them was Gayah. She was only the most beautiful, but also the cleverest. (also read : THE FROG PRINCE AND THE PRINCESS)

        One day they went to the jungle to collect some wild fruit. On their way, however, they lost their way. They were very afraid that they could not went back home. On their fear, Gayah said: “Don’t be afraid”. “I shall be able to find the way home back.”

        When the sun had set and night came, they saw a bright fire not far away from their position. For this they walked towards it. Coming the fire, they found a hut. One of them knocked the door of the hut.  The door suddenly was opened itself and behind it there was a little old woman sitting in front of it. They were very astonished.

        “Come in, please. I know you have lost your way,” the old woman said. “You must be hungry, although you certainly look quite fat and well fed. Hi, hi, hi! …… It is lucky that you found me. Have some of these cakes, my dears.” read more

      Once upon a time, there lived a widow in the village near the forest. She had a handsome and dashing son. Her son’s name was Joko Tarub. They lived in small hut. Days by days they cultivated their rice field and her son looked for fire woods in the forest. (Also read : Story of Javanese Letters)

       One day, when he looked for fire woods, he heard the sound of some girls laughing. As the place is deep inside the forest, Jaka Tarub wondered why there were girls there. Slowly he followed the sound and arrived at a small pond. By peeping trough the bushes, he saw seven beautiful girls taking a bath. He was really amazed by their beauty. After they had finished taking a bath, the girls slowly took their shawls. Amazingly after they wore the shawls, they flew to the sky. They were not humans. They were nymphs.
