History of Madiun Regency

Madiun Regency, based on a legitimate government, was established on the first half of the month, in Muharam, in 1568 precisely on Thursday, 18 July 1568. It began during the Demak Sultanate, which was marked by the marriage of Prince Pangeran Surya Patiunus from Demak to Raden Ayu Retno Lembah daughter of the Duke Adipati Gugur from Ngurawan, Dolopo.        The government center was moved from Ngurawan to Sogaten village with a new name “Purabaya” (known as Madiun now). Pangeran Surya Patiunus occupied the sultanate until 1521 and was continued by Kyai Rekso Gati. (Sogaten = place of Rekso Gati).

Pangeran Timur was appointed as the Regent of Purabaya on July 18, 1568 with a government center in the village of Sogaten. Since then the formal juridical Purabaya Regency had become a government area under a regent and ended the oversight government in Purabaya held by Kyai Rekso Gati in the name of Demak from 1518 – 1568. read more
