       Tangerang City (West Java) is now 26 years old. At this age, the City of Tangerang has increasingly developed and shows itself as a new “Metropolitan City” on the outskirts of the City of Jakarta.         The name “Tangerang” refers to an area near the Cisadane River, which was formerly known as Untung Jawa. According to history, the birth of the City of Tangerang originated from the name of a bamboo-based monument built by Prince Soegiri, the son of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa from Sultanate of Banten. This monument is located in the western part of the Cisadane River. The surrounding community called this monument with the name “Tengger” or “Tetengger” which in Sundanese means it is a sign or marker.        Bandengan Beach is located in Bandengan village, Jepara sub-district, Jepara regency, Central Java. This beach, which is located on the north coast of Java, is one of the interesting places to visit. During the holiday season, Bandengan beach is always crowded with tourists.        The name of the Bandengan Beach was closely related to one of the legends of the origin of the island of Karimunjawa, which in legend was told that Amir Hasan, the son of Sunan Muria, who was ordered to go deepen and simultaneously develop religious knowledge to the Karimunjawa Island. When they arrived at this beach, they found a lot of Milkfish (Ind=Bandeng) so that the area was named Bandengan Village which then the beach was also commonly referred to as Bandengan Beach.

       This beach is actually called Tirta Samudera Beach or Tirto Samudro Beach which is one of the leading tourist attractions in Jepara, the hometown of one of the National Heroes R.A. Kartini. This beach is about 7 km from the city of Jepara. In the past Bandengan Beach was managed by local residents, but since 1987 the management has been taken over by the Jepara Regency Government while still prioritizing the empowerment of local communities. He had a beautiful daughter named Dewi Sanggalangit. Her beauty was very famous from her father’s kingdom up to neighboring Kingdoms. There were many kings and prince who wanted to ask for her to be his wife.

       Unfortunately, Dewi Sanggalangit seemed not keen enough to settle down. It inevitably confused her parents. In fact, her parents have been very long time for the presence of a grandchild. “My daughter, when will you stop to reject every man who propose you?” asked the King one day.

       The Legend of Rawa Pening. Long time ago in Java island there was a village. The name of the village was Pening. Pening village was a prosperous village.  The land was fertile and the weather was always good around all year.  It was on the slope of Mount Merbabu so the climate was cool.  People made their living by cultivating rice, vegetables and fruits.  The harvest was always satisfying.  So all of them were in happy life.  That’s why once a year they held a ceremony called ‘Bersih desa’.  It was a kind of thanks giving day.  It was a day when they expressed their thankfulness to God for a successful harvest.  They would clean their village and then they would pray together.  At night they would have a dinner together and held theater performances.

       One day after a successful harvest they would celebrate it.  That time they wanted something special for celebrating it.  They wanted more meat for dinner.  So they went to the jungle for hunting. Just outside of the village there was a jungle where there were many animals like deer, buffalos, mouse deer, lambs and many other.  But that day there was no animal at all.  Animals were nowhere to be seen.  They had searched every inch of the wood but still their effort was in vain.  When it was almost dark, they were very tired so they took a rest.  They sat on something that look like a rock and a big root.  Everybody was silent because they were exhausted and disappointed. read more
