Story of Ande Ande Lumut

       Once upon a time there were two kingdoms, they were Kingdom of Jenggala and Kingdom of Kediri in which they were actually came from a kingdom called Kahuripan. Before dying, Airlangga stated that the two kingdoms must be reunited again in order to be in peace by marriage between the prince of Jenggala named Panji Asmarabangun and the princess of Kediri named Dewi Sekartaji. This had to be done to prevent war between these two kingdoms.  Panji Asmarabangun was a very handsome prince and Dewi Sekartaji was a very beautiful princess. They were very happy to be married because they loved each other.       One day after Dewi Sekartaji moved to Jenggala, the kingdom of Jenggala was attacked by enemies.  In the shock of the war, Dewi Sekartaji ran and tried to hide herself. She fled to a remote village in Jenggala and arrived at the house of a widow who has three daughters, Klenting Abang, Klenting Ijo and youngest Klenting Biru. The widow whose name Nyai Intan received Dewi Sekartaji as her daughter and named Dewi Sekartaji as Klenting Kuning.

      Klenting Kuning however, had to do many chores that Nyai Intan told her.  She had to cook, wash, and clean the house.  She was often shouted at by her stepmother and her three stepsisters.  She even was given only 1 meal a day.

      “Klenting Kuniiing!! Where is my dress? I want to use it now!” shouted Kleting Abang. 

     “Kuniing! Where is my breakfast? I’m really hungry! Take it now! Go, Hurry up!” said Klenting Ijo. (Also read other article at : Remember beautiful memory)

      But Klenting Biru interrupted. “Kuniiing! Where is my drink?”

      “I’m sorry, your dress is dirty and your breakfasts are not ready. Your drink is on the table. Said Klenting Kuning.

       “oh… what a stupid girl you are!” said Klenting Abang.

    Suddenly Nyai Intan shouted. “Keep Silent! Don’t be noisy! What happen here?”

      “Klenting Kuning, mom!” said Klenting Hijau.

      “Kuning! Do you know what time is it? You have to clean the floor and wash clothes, right?”

      “Yes mom.” Said Klenting Kuning.

    Although she was always be treated such a poor daughter, she never revenged and she never angered with her mother and her stepsisters. 

   Meanwhile, in the Kingdom of Jenggala, Panji Asmarabangun and his army was able to defeat and push the invaders back.  But he was sad that his wife had disappeared

     After the kingdom was in peace again, the prince decided to find his wife.  He told his guards to search the whole of kingdom and try to find the location of his wife.  One day one of the guard reported news to the prince about the result of searching.

      “My Majesty, I have great news! I have found a girl that looks very similar to your wife.  Although I’m not sure because the girl is from the village. She is one of the widow’s daughter. Based on the information, her name is Klenting Kuning”, explained the guard.

      Hearing that report, the prince decided to disguise himself from a handsome prince to be a common people in trying to find his wife.  He then departed to the village where Klenting Kuning lived.

      Ande Ande Lumut then asks the woman to announce that he is looking for potential wives. And girls from around villages came to Dadapan to purpose Ande-Ande Lumut. But no one can make Ande-Ande lLumut happy.

     One day he arrived in the village Dadapan. In that village, Panji Asmarabangun disguised himself as Ande Ande Lumut and met a window who was called Mbok Rondo Dadapan. Mbok Rondo Dadapan.took him as her son and since then he lived in the widow’s house. 

      He then asks to Mbok Rondo Dadapan announce that he wanted to find a girl as his wife. He also told secretly to his guards to spread the news everywhere. The news soon reached to the place of Klenting Kuning. Klething Abang, Klething Ijo and youngest Klething Biru were very happy to hear the news.  They quickly put on their make up to win the heart of Ande Ande Lumut. .

      “Woohoo, we should try to be as beautiful as possible, one of us will become the wife of handsome man.  Our mother will surely be proud of us”, said Klenting Abang to her sisters.

      Then Klenting Kuning interrupted, “Wow, you all look so beautiful!”

      “Hey Kuning, do you want to go to Dadapan too?” asked Klenting Abang.

     “Impossible!  You don’t even have beautiful clothes.  You can’t go to meet Ande Ande Lumut, the handsome boy with that ugly dress”, said Klenting Ijo.

     “Yeah, you are better off cleaning the dirty clothes”, shouted Klenting Biru as she pointed towards the dirty clothes in the corner of the room.

       Klenting Kuning picked up the clothes and went to the river.  She wasn’t interested in meeting Ande Ande Lumut. She was still in love with Panji Asmarabangun even though we hadn’t heard any news about him, whether or not he was dead or alive from the war.  Then a high crane flew to the river.  Strangely, the crane could talk like a human and had a whip in its claws.

      “Hey Princess, go to meet Ande Ande Lumut. He was actually Panji Asmarabangun, the prince.  Bring this whip.  Whenever you need help, you can use this whip”, said the crane.  Not long he flew away and couldn’t be found again. Klenting Kuning quickly rushed home to change her clothes.  Her stepmother and stepsisters had already left to meet Ande Ande Lumut.  

      On the way Klething Abang, Klething Ijo, Klething Biru and their mother came to a very wide river. There are no bridges or boats so they cannot pass. They are so confuse. Then they saw a Giant crab came to them. (Also read other article at : Kesendirian Membawa Kebahagiaan)

      “My name is Yuyu Kangkang. Can help you? Do you want to cross the river?”

      They certainly would. “Yes, we want to cross. Do you want to help us?” Said the mother.

      “Of course but this is not for free.” Replied Yuyu Kangkang.

      “Do you want money..?? How much..??”Asked the widow mother

      “I do not want your money. I will help you cross the river with one condition.  You must kiss me first, and then I will bring you across the river”, answered Yuyu Kangkang. They were shocked to hear the answer of Yuyu Kangkang. But they have no other choice. So they agreed. All the girls and Nyai Intan kissed Yuyu Kangkang and were brought across the river.  

      Finally they arrived at Mbok Rondo Dadapan’s house. They asked to see Ande Ande Lumut. Then Mbok Randa knock the Ande-Ande Lumut’s room, she said, “My son, behold, there are three beautiful girls want to ask choose one of them as your wife.”

      “Mother,” said Ande-Ande Lumut, “Tell them, I do not want to make all of them as my wife because they have been kissed by Yuyu Kangkang.” The window and her three daughters were surprised to hear the answer of Ande Ande Lumut. How he knew that they had met with the giant crab. Finally they hopeless went home.

      After a while, Klenting Kuning arrived at the river.  Yuyu Kangkang gave the same condition.  But Klenting Kuning refused.  She would never betray her husband to this crab.  So she took the whip and lashed at the river.  The river slowly started to drain.  Yuyu Kangkang was so afraid of what was happening that the crab agreed to bring Klenting Kuning across the river, directly she went to Mbok Rondo Dadapan’s house.

      Mbok Randa knock the Ande-Ande Lumut’s room, she said, “My son, behold, there is a beautiful girl but wearing a dirty cloth want to meet you and to be your wife.

       “I’ll see her, Mom,” said Ande Ande Lumut

      “But…..She…… ,”said Mbok Rondo Dadapan

      “Be patient, Mom. She is the only girl that I have been waiting for.”

      Mbok Randa was silent. She followed the Ande Ande Lumut to see her. Klenthing kuning surprised to see Ande Ande Lumut who was actually Panji Asmarabangun, her beloved husband,

      “Sekartaji, finally we meet again,” Raden PAnji said.

     Panji Asmarabangun bring Dewi Sekartaji and Mbok Rondo Dadapan to Jenggala kingdom, Panji Asmarabangun and Dewi Sekartaji finally became wise king and queen, Kediri Kingdom and Jenggala Kingdom was reunited. They lived happily.
