      One day The king Harun Al-Rasyid wanted to test Abunawas’ smartness. So he ordered his guards to call Abunawas to the palace. When he came to the palace, the king permitted him to sit down. (also read : Archer and the King of Jungle)

“You want me, your Majesty?” greeted Abunawas.

“Yes, you have fooled me many times and that’s too much. I want you to leave the country now. Otherwise you will have to go to jail” said the king.

“If that is what you want, I will do what you said” said Abunawas sadly.

“Remember, from tomorrow you may not step on the ground of this country anymore” the king said seriously.

“Yes, Your Majesty.” Said Abunawas sadly, then left the king’s palace sadly.

The following morning the king ordered his two guards to go to Abunawas’ house. When the guards were at Abunawas’ house, they were very surprised found Abunawas was still in his house.       Long time ago in Flores, there was a beautiful girl. Her name was Nggerang. She lived in a village called Ndoso Village, Manggarai regency in West Flores. She was very beautiful. Because of her beauty, she was very famous not only in that village, but also around the Manggarai regency. People in that village, however, said that she was strange because of her father.       Besides having beautiful face, Nggerang also had a beautiful smile. Her skin was smooth and reddish as a princess from heaven. She had beautiful eyes and nose. When she transformed herself into something else, none could recognize her.

In his village, he was very famous as the dead shot of animals and he was skillful in hunting. He could shoot the target wherever he found the animals, although the distance was far away.       One day in a sunny day, the birds was singing in the jungle. It made the sun was smiling in the sky. It was the beautiful day for the animals in the deep of the jungle. Unfortunately, they did not know that the dangerous was near with them.

      At that time, the archer prepared himself well for everything he needed. Included the bow and the arrows. He wanted to go to the deep of the jungle.       One day, just before he died, he said to his wife; “Now listen to me my wife, when I die, I want you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. I wanna take my money to the afterlife.” So he asked his wife to promise him with all her heart that when he died, she would put all the money in the casket with him.       Once upon a time, there was a kingdom whom the king used to be gone over one king with another king every year. During the year, the king would live well in the kingdom. He had got everything he wanted so he lived in luxury. However, he should resign as the king after one year reigning in his kingdom. He should remove to the remote island to live there. That time was sad moment, the king was escorted to a remote island to stay.

      One day, it turned to find out a new king. The prime minister ordered the guards to announce to the people of the kingdom to the position as a king, however, there was no one interested to be a king because they were not to be expelled to remote island. (also read : Abunawas Became a King)

      At last the guards found a young man named Frederick who agreed to be a king. After three days he became a king, he requested many guards and people accompany him to the island. Apparently, on the island were full of dense forests and wild animals. All the king who were sent to the island, had died from being eaten by wild animals. read more

      The sun was moving highly when the rich man got up and leaned out of his window and saw that on the opposite side of the way there was a new clean-looking house with red tiles and bright windows where the old hut used to be. 

      He was very much astonished, and called his wife and said to her, “Tell me, what can have happened? Last night there was a miserable little hut standing there, and today there is a beautiful new house. You have to run over and see how that has come to pass.”

      So his wife went and asked the poor man, and he said to her: “Yesterday evening a traveler came here and asked for a night’s lodging, and this morning when he took leave of us, he granted us three wishes – eternal happiness, health during this life and our daily bread as well, and besides this, a beautiful new house instead of our old hut.” read more

      Once upon a time, when the Wise God who pretended himself as a poor traveler, walked about the earth amongst men, it once happened that he was tired and overtaken by the darkness before he could reach an inn.  Now there stood on the road before him two houses facing each other, the one was large and beautiful, however, the other was small and poor.  The large one belonged to a rich man, and the small one belonged to a poor man.       Then the Wise God thought, “I shall be no burden to the rich man. I will stay the night with him”.  Then he knocked the rich man’s door. He opened the window and asked the stranger what he wanted.  The Wise God answered, “I only ask for a night’s lodging”.

      Then the rich man looked at the traveler from head to foot, and as the Wise God was wearing common clothes, and did not look like one who had much money in his pocket, he shook his head, and said, “No, I cannot take you in, my rooms are full of herbs and seeds.  And if I were to lodge everyone who knocked at my door, I might very soon go begging myself.  Go somewhere else for a lodging.” He then shut down the window and left the Wise God standing there. read more

      One day before a miller died, he had divided all his worth to his sons. “Okay my sons, listen to me, before I leave, you have to receive what I give to every one of you. You are the eldest son must receive the mill, the donkey is to you my second son and . . . I give a cat to my youngest son.” Said the miller to all his three sons. And soon he passed away.

    At the time they got some differences, they could say nothing. That’s what the miller said. The eldest son kept the mill, the second son took the donkey and set off in search of his fortune . . .       But the cat heard his words and said, “Don’t worry, Master. What do you think? That I’m worth less than a half-ruined mill or a mangy donkey? Give me a cloak, a hat with a feather in it, a bag and a pair of boots, and you will see what I can do.”

      Once upon a time, there was a cap seller was passing through a jungle. He would go to the market of the town for selling his caps. Because of his long journey, he was very tired and needed to rest. When he looked at a big tree, he decided to take a rest there. Then he stopped and spread a cloth under the tree. He placed his bag full of caps near him and lay down with his cap on his head. The cap seller slept and he had a sound sleep for one hour. When he got up, the first thing he did was to look into his bag. However, he was very startled when he found all his caps were not there. (also read : The Bird and Greedy Monkey)

      When he looked up the sky, he was very surprised to see some monkeys sitting on the branches of a tree, each of the monkeys was wearing a cap of on its head. They had evidently done it to imitate him. He thought what should he did to get his caps from the monkeys. Finally, he got an idea. He decided to get his caps back by making a humble request to the monkeys. In return, the monkeys only made faces of him. When he begun to make gesture, the monkeys also imitated him. It made he was disappointed. He started to think again by using another way to get his caps back. read more
