Brief History of Laos Country
Laos is the only country in Southeast Asia that does not have sea areas. The country in which its capital city of Vientiane is known as a peaceful, friendly, and still holds strong traditional understanding country. History of Laos
The Lao people migrated to Laos from South China since the 8th century. In the 14th century, the first Lao state was founded, the Lan Xang kingdom, which ruled Laos until it was divided into three separate kingdoms in 1713. During the 18th century, three kingdoms came under Siam (Thailand), and rules, in 1893, became a protectorate of France. With its territory included in Indochina. A strong nationalist movement was developed during World War II, but France rebuilt control in 1946 and made the king of Luang Prabang the constitutional monarchy of all Laos. France was granted semiautonomy in 1949 and later, driven by the Viet Minh revolt in Vietnam, full independence within the French Union in 1950.
In 1951, Prince Souphanouvong organized Pathet Lao, a communist independence movement, in North Vietnam. Viet Minh and Lao Pathet forces invaded the center of Laos, resulting in civil war. With the 1954 Geneva Agreement and the ceasefire of 1955, two northern provinces were awarded to Pathet Lao, the rest went to the royal regime. Full sovereignty was granted to the kingdom by the Paris Agreement of 29 December 1954. In 1957, Prince Souvanna Phouma, royal prime minister, and Pathet Lao leader Prince Souphanouvong, the prime minister’s half-brother, agreed to re-establish a unified government, with Pathet Lao participation and integration of troops Pathet Lao in the royal army. In 1960, the struggle became a three-way fight as General Phoumi Nosavan, controlling most of the royal army, established in the south of the pro-Western revolutionary government led by Prince Boun Oum. General Phoumi took Vientiane in December, driving Souvanna Phouma into exile in Cambodia. The Soviet Block was supported by Souvanna Phouma. In 1961, a ceasefire was arranged and three princes agreed to a coalition government led by Souvanna Phouma.
After the Japanese occupation during the Second World War, Laos later freed itself by the name of the Kingdom of Laos. Precisely on July 19, 1949, led by King Sisavang Vong.

In 1951, Pathet Lao a communist movement in North Vietnam and Viet Minh attacked the center of the Kingdom of Laos, a civil war ensued. After the issuance of the Geneva agreement in 1954 and the ceasefire in 1955, the decision of two northern provinces was given to the Pathet Lao. Then the Kingdom of Laos gained full sovereignty on December 29, 1954 through the Paris agreement.
In 1957 there was an agreement to form a united government between Souphanouvong and Pathet. But in 1959 the agreement had no effect, they resumed armed conflict again.
In 1975, the Pathet Lao communists opposed the government of King Savang Vatthana. The movement was supported by Unisoviet and communist Vietnam. While in the government of King Savang Vatthana received support from the United States and France.
In 1997 Laos joined with other Asian countries in the ASEAN organization.
After experiencing a takeover, the Kingdom of Laos later changed its name to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, up to this day it still survives.
