This recreation place is about temple. And the name of temple is Prambanan Temple. This temple is also well-known after you know about Borobudur temple.
Prambanan Temple is locally known as the Roro Jonggrang Temple, or the Temple of the “Slender Virgin”. It is actually not one temple, but it is a complex temples. This is the most famous and also the most magnificent of Central Java’s temples or more precisely complex of temples. It is the largest Hindu temples in Indonesia and one of the largest Hindu temples in south-east Asia. It is characterized by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu temple architecture, and by the 47m high central building inside a large complex of individual temples. The temple complex was built by Rakai Pikatan, the king of the Medang/Mataram Kingdom in the 9th century BC, and it was dedicated to Shiva.
Prambanan temple has three main temples in the primary yard, namely Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva temples. Those three temples are symbols of Trimurti in Hindu belief. All of them face to the east. Each main temple has accompanying temple facing to the west, namely Nandini for Shiva, Angsa for Brahma, and Garuda for Vishnu. Besides, there are 2 Apit (flank) temples, 4 kelir temples and 4 corner temples. In the second area, there are 224 temples.
Inside Shiva temple, there are four rooms. One main room contains Shiva statue. It is the highest temple because this statue is three meters high, while the other three rooms contain the statues of Durga (Shiva’s wife), Agastya (Shiva’s teacher), and Ganesha (Shiva’s son). Durga statue is said to be the statue of Roro Jonggrang based on the legend.
The temple complex is located in the sub-district of Prambanan district of Sleman and Klaten. It is very unique, Prambanan temple is located in the administrative area Bokoharjo village, Prambanan, Sleman, while the entrance of the Prambanan temple complex located in the administrative region Tlogo village, Prambanan, Klaten.
The location is approximately 17 kilometers northeast of Yogyakarta, 40 kilometers southwest of Solo. The main road connecting these two large cities passes right by Prambanan and this makes transport links very straightforward. The nearest actual town to Prambanan is Klaten, about 3 km to the north.
So if you go for recreation to Borobudur Temple, don’t miss for coming to Prambanan Temple.
