The Function of Future Continuous Tense.

  1. Future Continuous is used to indicate that a longer action in the future will be interrupted by a shorter action in the future. Remember this can be a real interruption or just an interruption in time.

Examples:

She will be playing TV when she arrives tonight.

We will be waiting for you when your bus arrives.

She will be studying in my room tonight when Ratna arrives.

Notice: in the examples above that the interruptions (marked in italics) are in Simple Present rather than Simple Future. This is because the interruptions are in time clauses, and you cannot use future tenses in time clauses.

  1. Future Continuous can also be used by adding a specific time as an interruption.

Examples:

Tonight at 7 PM, I will be eating dinner. (I will be in the process of eating dinner.)

The sentence “Tonight at 7 PM, I will be eating dinner.” Means that I am going to start eating earlier (before 7 PM) and I will be in the process of eating dinner at 7 PM.

At midnight tonight, we will still be driving through the road. (We will be in the process of driving through the road.)

The sentence “At midnight tonight, we will still be driving through the road.” Means that we are going to start driving earlier (before midnight) and we will be in the process of driving through the road.

That’s all about future continuous tense I can share and I hope it will be useful for increasing our English.
